Nadrai aqueduct


Description - The Nadrai Aqueduct was constructed in the year 1878 at kilometer 53.300 of the Lower Ganga Canal near Nadrai village from Kali river in Kasganj district to divert the authorized discharge of 4100 cusecs of the Lower Ganga Canal to other branch canals of the canal system. It had 5 rates of 10.67 meters wide. The flood of October 02, 1884 damaged this aqueduct and again on July 17, 1885, the great flood of Kali river, whose maximum flow was 1,32,475 cusecs, completely damaged this aqueduct. In its place, in the year 1889, on October 20, 1889, an aqueduct was constructed again, in which 18.29 meters wide 15 rates were constructed, in which 4100 cusecs of canal water was envisaged to flow.

Due to increase in water demand in Kharif crop, 7100 cusecs of aqueduct was proposed due to increase in canal capacity, for which aqueduct was not capable, to solve this problem, Irrigation Research Institute, Roorkee, after conducting a detailed study on the model, upstream and It was proposed to do fluming work and other works in the downstream.After implementing the said work, 7100 cusecs of water was able to flow through the aqueduct and after this the Nadrai aqueduct is functioning well. The biggest feature of this aqueduct is that this aqueduct was built without cement-rebars, only with brick, lime and lead, which is an excellent engineering example, and is about 150 years old and at present there are about 11 organizations of the organization. It is playing an important role in providing water for irrigation to the farmers.
